When you have dry, flaky, and itchy skin, all you want is relief from the pain. How do you soothe dry skin? What's the best skincare routine for you? If you think hydration equals washing and bathing more, you might want to step away from the shower.

Before you build your step-by-step skin care routine, it's important to identify skin care mistakes you might be committing. Here are some of the things you might be doing that’s causing your skin to get even drier.

1.) You’re washing too much.

If you think that water is equivalent to hydration, you’re mistaken. Bathing or washing your face too much can actually strip your skin of its natural oils causing it to dry out even more.What you should be doing: Skip the cleanser in the morning and just rinse off with water. 2.) You’re piling on too much product.

A proper skincare routine order is important but if you’re putting ontoo many products, they may be doing more harm than good.

3.) Your water is too hot.

Hot showers are great especially on cool mornings, but dial it down a little. Warm water is better because hot water can cause irritation and inflammation.
